Whether or not you choose a Happenstance puppy, we are dedicated to helping people make SMART CHOICES about the dogs they add to their families. That's why we have included this message on our website as a warning... buyer beware when making your puppy selection.
Sadly, there are unscrupulous breeders in the Maryland area who are famous for advertising their Golden puppies as "the most affordable" healthy and beautiful Goldens. There is, unfortunately, a reason why these puppies are so cheap. These unethical backyard breeders are not following best practices. They are breeding dogs who are not old enough to breed, not old enough to get health clearances, and do NOT have all recommended clearances. Sadly, if you visit online Golden Retriever forums, you will see reports about puppies from these breeders who now suffer from debilitating dysplasia and other health problems.
So... buyer beware. If the breeder has a flashy website but there's oddly no info provided on the mother/dam- that's a big red flag. If you don't see the dam or sire's profile, including documented pedigree and clearances-- red flag.
It's true that you get what you pay for. Make sure your investment in a puppy is one that brings you joy, not heartache down the road. To that end, please read the excellent links below, from the Golden Retriever Club of America, to help you make a smart choice! Also, check out The Golden Retriever Forum at www.goldenretrieverforum.com and search the kennel name of the breeder you are considering. Often you'll be shocked at the information you learn there.
